DIY TEA PARTY WITH GUILIA

Whether for a birthday party, to celebrate a special event or just to enjoy time together, afternoon tea with families and friends is always a delight!

It can be highly luxurious with richly decorated porcelain in elegant tea rooms but just as fun when totally “homemade”! Let’s ask Guilia to tell us more about her easy DIY afternoon tea craft.

Can you please present yourself?

I'm a mother of three, two daughters and one son, living near Milan.

I have always been very creative. As a child, I would make my own toys with elements I had at home, including recycled ones. Now that I am a mother, it's even better as the children can join in!

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind this DIY afternoon tea?

When creating I like my projects to be meaningful, to be functional and related to an idea.

The idea behind the 'afternoon tea' comes from the desire to recreate beautiful afternoon teas like those in paintings with elegant saucers, antique porcelain, silver spoons, and delicious macarons.

Such tea parties are extremely expensive and my wish was to allow everyone to make their own 'Queen service' with just a few recycled materials.

Not to mention that the game starts when creating the whole set. The fun begins before the party itself!

Can you give us all the steps to make our own?

Find inspiration : Browse on the internet, flick through magazines and books to find images and mood inspiration.

Create the saucers : Cut out discs of cardboard. Print vintage motifs or any print you like and glue them upon the discs.

Make your spoons : Collect sea shells. Use a dremel tool drill to make a hole. Take wire and use your imagination to create fancy handles.

Create your teacups : Use toilet roll cardboard tubes. Cut to obtain the height wished for. Paint or decorate with prints.

Create your tea tray : Use a flat fruit crate from the grocery store and paint it!

Make your macarons :  Use baking soda paste (which creates a luminescent effect) and a milk cap to achieve a nice round shape. Join the halves together with a layer of silicone!

Make your macaron stand : Use discs of different sizes with a hole in the middle. Glue them to a Chinese chopstick. And that's it!

Do you wish to give us a little spoiler on your next project?

I will soon present a game that I am working hard on. It is the synthesis of my favorite games as a child, but adapted to the world of today, with the experience of a mum. I'm sure it will not leave you indifferent! Stay tuned!
